Sending a takedown notice

To be effective under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), your notice needs to include all of the following:

Your physical or electronic signature.
Identification of the copyrighted work you say was infringed.
The URL of the material on this site you want removed, specific enough for us to find it.
Your address, telephone number, and email address.
A statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.

Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing can make you liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).

What we do with it

We remove or disable the material promptly, tell the member who posted it, and pass on a copy of the notice.

Counter-notices

If your post was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent. It needs your signature, identification of the removed material and where it appeared, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief it was removed by mistake, your contact details, and your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or, if you are outside the United States, of any district where we may be found).

If we receive a valid counter-notice we forward it to the person who complained. Unless they tell us they have filed a court action, we may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days.

Repeat infringers

Honest Bread keeps a record of copyright complaints against each account. An account that receives repeated valid complaints will be closed. We apply this in practice, not just on paper.

Recipes specifically

A bare list of ingredients generally is not protected by copyright, but the written method, headnotes and photographs usually are. So: name the recipe, link to it, and describe what you changed. Do not paste somebody else's method or upload their photo as your own.
